Shade is a timetable problem

Shade on a school campus has to exist at 10:40 and at 13:15, not at solar noon on a plan. That means canopy placed by sun path and by where children actually congregate, not by where the drawing looked balanced.

It also means species discipline. Nothing with thorns near circulation. Nothing with toxic fruit within reach. Nothing with brittle limbs over a play surface. The palette narrows quickly, and it should.
